Mr Marci Maheson
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
I have worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Cardiff since 1993, specialising in adult hip surgery. I provide a comprehensive specialist private practice service receiving referrals from Wales, the whole of the UK and internationally. My clinical work covers primary joint replacement surgery. I am actively involved in research and development projects in these fields. I am also actively involved in surgeon education/training having been regularly invited to speak internationally and perform demonstration operations nationally and globally.
I graduated from Sheffield University Medical School in 1983. After junior hospital posts at the university hospitals in Sheffield and Nottingham I completed higher surgical training in Orthopaedics and Trauma at the University Hospitals in Cardiff. I gained further specialist training in Dallas Texas USA, Toronto Canada, Endoclinic Hamburg and Nuremberg Germany before being appointed Senior Lecturer then NHS Consultant to the Cardiff University Hospitals.
I have been involved in a large number of innovations in the field of joint replacement surgery over the years including computer navigation surgery, reconstructive revision surgery and the use of micro hip replacements.
I come from a mixed Italian and Sri Lankan Tamil parentage. Married with 3 sons and a daughter, I still find time to enjoy another passion in my life - that of cycling. I have been a keen cyclist for many years involved mainly in road racing, sportives and mountain biking. Away from work this is one of my main interests.
